As we discovered last season, the beautiful St. John’s Chapel is a picturesque and perfect setting for our intimate string orchestra concert, “Sunday Serenade at St. John’s.” We are delighted to bring back organist extraordinaire, David Wagner, who is not only on the faculty of Madonna University but he is also the same “Dr. Dave” who heads Detroit’s classical music radio station WRCJ. This time he’ll be featured on Franz Joseph Haydn’s Organ Concerto in C. Stepping out to solo on Antonio Vivaldi’s “Spring” from the Four Seasons will be our fabulous concertmaster, Anicka Skalova. One of our favorite composers, Ann-Arbor based composer James Aikman, will also be back for the performance of his richly sonorous work, Ania’s Song: A Pavane for String Orchestra. Topping off the program will be two folk music-inspired pieces, Wapango by Cuban-American composer Paquito D’Rivera and St. Paul’s Suite by English composer Gustav Holst.
