| Pictures at an Exhibition - March 5, 2011 The Village Theater 7:30 pm |
|
For the grand finale to our 65th anniversary season we’ll pull out all the stops for the big, bold, brassy and breathtaking Pictures at an Exhibition by the great Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky. Depicting an array of themes and textures of the original “exhibition” of paintings, this sparklingly vibrant musical masterpiece continues to be in the top 10 of audience favorites. Also drawing its inspiration from visual art, is the new composition by New York composer Katherine Hoover titled J.M. W. Turner: Impressions. This performance will be the world premiere of this extraordinary piece based on four different paintings by the English Romantic landscape painter. Our own Celebration Youth Symphony (our most advanced youth ensemble) will again join PSO in a side-by-side performance of the spirited Festive Overture by 20th century master Dmitri Shostakovich
